“There’s Going to be a Wedding”
Words by Nika

I awakened to a day destined for rain.
It’s not so lovely a thought, “thunderstorm on your wedding day.”
Heels clicking, time’s a ticking,
my stomach tied up in knots…
despite the sun being too shy, this day would go on.

I was finally getting married to him,
that’s what mattered.

Little did I know what was in store, for no more than two hours later
the Florida sun began to shine brighter than ever.
It was then I knew this was a day for miracles.

I thought back two years to the day,
when our friendship formed to courtship.
Our hearts were smitten and “kilig” for another;
without doubt, we knew this day would come.

We dreamed our wedding would be a bit of what heaven looks like.
Not the streets of gold, not the rubies and emeralds,
but with the spirit of joy and ripe anticipation.

There’s an old story that tells of a king
who gave up everything to be with his beloved,

but before they could be together
he had to go prepare his kingdom.

Then he would come back for her
and take her as his bride.

We prayed we could resemble that special moment.

He knelt down before me, as I did to him,
and in an act of humility and service to each other,
he washed my feet and I washed his.

Both our parents gave their blessing upon our marriage
and oh, what a powerful moment it was.
Promising our lives, love, and commitment to each other
couldn’t have been more beautiful to us.

We had definite favor and blessing from God.
What more could we want?

The rest of the evening was spent in amazement.
Was I actually wed to my betrothed?
I could not believe my eyes.

We finally shared our first kiss since the night he proposed,
eight months ago.

It all felt so new and exciting!
I think that’s how it’s supposed to be.
